In honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, the Bridges to 草榴社区program and the 草榴社区 Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging co-hosted an event focusing on self-advocacy for individuals on the autism spectrum.
Dedicated to providing the highest levels of individualized academic, social, and vocational support services to Adelphi鈥檚 neurodiverse students. This includes students who self-disclose that they are on the autism spectrum, or students who have other non-verbal or neurological-social disorders.

Transition to College Life
During our Summer Launch Program, you will receive tailored support services and an exclusive summer course, making the transition to 草榴社区 easy.
Through a variety of services designed to help students maximize areas of strength and creativity, the Bridges to 草榴社区Program endeavors to increase community awareness and understanding, as well as foster appreciation for each student鈥檚 unique views of the world.
Bridges to 草榴社区is a vital campus resource. It achieves its mission by:
- Offering individual, group, and peer mentor services, designed to help students overcome issues that may affect academic, social and vocational success; while upholding the University鈥檚 academic integrity, high standards, and expectations.
- Serving as consultant, collaborator, and liaison to the University faculty, administration, staff, and students, in addition to the surrounding community, to create an environment supportive of the intellectual, emotional, diverse, and spiritual needs of students.
- Providing outreach to families and school districts to support students鈥 transition to higher education and nurture educational bonds with 草榴社区.
- Providing outreach and training to other universities with similar programs, or interested in developing similar programs.
- Providing training programs to companies and organizations interested in increasing their internal diversity programs.
- Collecting and evaluating program data to assess the efficacy of Bridges activities, and to contribute to research in the field of college programs for neurodiverse students.
10 Years of Transformative Support and Inclusion
We plan to have an event at Spirit Weekend this September 27-29, 2024, where we welcome all of our students and their families throughout the years to come back 鈥榟ome鈥 and reminisce on their journey with us.
As part of the 10th anniversary celebration, the program will devote $13,000 raised during the toward renovating the Bridges sensory room and a mobile sensory station to enhance neuro-inclusivity at various events across 草榴社区.

In 2018, 草榴社区 broke new ground by opening a sensory room, with a sensory wall, soft floors, a pouch swing, beanbag chairs and low lighting. This was the first room of its kind specifically opened for students with autism at a college campus. Launch GallerySensory Room

Bridges to 草榴社区program received a 2021-2022 gold Excellence Award from the in the Equity, Inclusion, Social Justice and Related category and a gold Grand Winner award鈥攆or “transforming higher education through outstanding programs, innovative services and effective administration.鈥
Our Students Created an 草榴社区Campus Tour in聽Minecraft
During the pandemic in Summer 2020, several students in the Bridges to 草榴社区program began developing a digital replica of our Garden City campus鈥攅ven our beloved bunnies鈥攊n Minecraft video game format.
